How New Zealand Changed My Life
When I was 14, I wanted to improve my English skills. So I asked my teacher, whom I was studying with, and he said, “You can go study abroad in the summer.” My teacher said that New Zealand is a wonderful place to study. When I went to the airport, I was very excited because I was going to fly without parents. Before I flew to New Zealand, I expected the people to be very friendly.
The weather was very shocking to me. It was cool and a little bit windy. New Zealanders are very kind and cautious about crosswalks. I think the culture in New Zealand is very open. When New Zealanders see each other on the road, they honk their horns to greet each other. I had to learn how to manage my money because I loved shopping and spent a lot each day.
During my one-month study in New Zealand, I shared my knowledge with my teachers and classmates about how Thai students study. When I was not in school, I enjoyed life a lot, so I think everyone should visit it at least once. My English became much better than before, and I learned how to manage money. Everything I did and learned in New Zealand was very beneficial to my life and helped me grow as a person.
The happiest memory is of my host family, their son and daughter, and me playing outside. We played hide-and-seek in the dark. I went to Rainbow’s End. It is a theme park. It has many rides. I stayed with a volunteer host family in New Zealand and also lived with one of my Thai buddies. When I sat and relaxed on the balcony, I realized how wonderful life was.
New Zealand helped me grow as a person because I had to rely on myself. I learned a lot there, such as how to live independently, manage money, and stay social. I feel thankful for myself and everyone who made this experience happen. I learned things that cannot be taught in the classroom. If you want to study abroad but are still thinking about it, I’ll say, “You must go study overseas once in your life.”
