Thailand & New Zealand Sister School: A Mild, Medium, Spicy Path to Growing Confidence
My name is Wynnycha Chottirapong, and going to New Zealand was one of the most exciting and meaningful experiences in my life. I joined the sister school program between Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School (Satit Chula) and Remuera Primary School and Remuera Intermediate School, and from the very beginning, I knew this journey would be very special.
When I first arrived, I felt excited because everything was new. However, those feelings quickly disappeared when I met my host family, the Soh family. They welcomed me with warm smiles and kindness, which made me feel at home right away. I stayed with them during my trip, and they treated me like a member of their family.
My buddy was Grace, a Year 6 student and the daughter of the Soh family. She has two brothers, and we shared many fun and happy moments together. Grace was not only my buddy, but also my friend. She helped me with everything, from school life to daily life, and always made sure I was okay. Because of her, I never felt alone and slowly became more confident.
Living with the Soh family was full of wonderful memories. They took me to the beach, where I could feel the cool breeze and see the wide, beautiful ocean. It was peaceful and very different from what I usually see. We also went rock climbing. At first, I felt a bit scared, but after trying, I found it very fun and exciting.
One day, we visited the Auckland Museum, where I learned many interesting things about New Zealand’s culture and history. It helped me understand the country more deeply. Another moment I will never forget was going to McDonald’s, which had a two-storey indoor playground. I had so much fun and felt like a little kid again.
At Remuera Primary School, I studied in Class 29. On my first day, I was quite shy, but everyone was very friendly and kind. My classmates talked to me, included me in activities, and made me feel welcome. My teachers were also very supportive and encouraging. Even though I was not very confident in English at first, I slowly became braver and more comfortable speaking and joining class activities.
The learning system at school was very interesting. In subjects like Math and English spelling, there were different levels of worksheets: mild, medium, and spicy. Students could choose the level that was right for them. This made learning more fun and helped me grow step by step, just like moving from mild to spicy.
Art classes were always interesting for me. The techniques were similar to what I had learned at Satit Chula, so I felt familiar, but I also enjoyed creating new work.
We also had the chance to learn T-ball, which I had never experienced in Thailand before. It was very fun to hit the ball from a stand and run to score points. I really enjoyed this new sport.
Another special experience was table tennis. My host family and the school helped me find a coach and introduced me to skilled players who were Remuera students. We practiced together, learned from each other, and became good friends. This made me realize that table tennis is not just a sport, but something that connects people and brings friendships together.
One of the most special experiences for me was the 3-day Year 7 Adair YMCA Camp. It was an amazing opportunity for Thai students like us. At the camp, we did 10 different activities that focused on teamwork, communication, and courage. These team-building activities helped me become braver and more confident. I learned how to work with others, help my friends, and believe in myself more. We laughed, learned, and created great memories together. I am very grateful for this experience, and I will always remember all 10 activities.
Another unforgettable moment was the farewell ceremony at Remuera Intermediate School. I, along with eight other Thai students, performed Thai traditional dancing for cultural exchange. I felt both nervous and proud. When we finished and saw the audience smiling and clapping, I felt very happy and proud to represent Thailand.
Looking back, this journey gave me more than just memories. It helped me grow, become more confident, and learn about a new culture and way of life. I also learned the importance of friendship, kindness, teamwork, and being open to new experiences.
I will always remember the Soh family, Grace, my friends, and all the wonderful moments I had in New Zealand. This journey will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope I will have a chance to go back again in the future.

อีกหนึ่งประสบการณ์ที่พิเศษคือการเล่นปิงปอง ฉันได้ฝึกกับโค้ชและเพื่อน ๆ ทำให้เราได้เรียนรู้และเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีต่อกัน ทำให้ฉันรู้ว่าปิงปองไม่ใช่แค่กีฬา แต่เป็นสิ่งที่เชื่อมโยงผู้คนไว้ด้วยกัน
