Thirty years ago on this day, when I was crowned Miss Universe 1988, my life changed forever. In that magical moment, I became the “Thai Cinderella” transformed from a working college student to an international persona with all the expectations and obligations that the title demanded. To stand on that stage representing my native country of Thailand was overwhelming and indescribable. Having grown up in California, after my parents migrated to the U.S., my motherland may have been far in distance but never far from my heart. After being crowned, little did I know that this title would lead me to travel the world to incredible places to meet extraordinary people, accomplish great missions and more importantly, profoundly connect me with my own extraordinary heritage. All shaping me into the blessed woman, wife and mother I am today. I want to sincerely thank the Miss Universe organization and the gracious people that have welcomed and hosted me along the way. You gave this humble girl truly a gift of a lifetime! And a VERY special Khap Khun Kha ขอบคุณค่ะ to my native country of Thailand, with its loyal fans, supportive press, gracious people, and inspiring spirit, you are a land like no other. I will forever be grateful that I was born a Thai woman. 🙏💙🇹🇭

ON THIS DAY | Exactly 30 years ago today when Porntip Nakhirunkanok from Thailand was crowned #MissUniverse1988 in Taipei, Taiwan. At the age of 20, she became the second Thai woman to win the title after Apasra Hongsakula who won Miss Universe 1965.
