Long - long time ago when I was freshly graduated from university and I got a scholarship to do my internship
in the US , I was so excited about the campus's life. (never leave home until 23)
The university that sponsored me is one of the top business schools in the mid west. Most of my friends looked so cool and smart. They would take turn throwing a party almost every Friday night. I was curious if there'd be
a scene like in a teenager movies when partygoers paired together and disappeared in the host's room.
555. It happened most of the time! Or the first time I heard our roommate moaned so loud in the middle of the night, and my best girlfriend just told me : you would just get used to it. (We lived in a 2 storey big house)
I was so young, so shy and lived at home all my life back home. My friends knew this, so they tried to help me with
survival guides living in a big city. One night they started with walking me around in the campus. They told me one guy (friend) would pretend to be a stranger and attack me. What I had to do was to cry out so loud to attract people for help or to shake him away. But whenever he grabed my arms, I couldn't open my mouth to let anything out. I was just shocked. But they wouldn't give up. They kept pretending to attack me from time to time. They said they couldn't believe it that I could stand still like a rock when someone tried
to grab me. Later when they tried so often with me, I just laughed (tickerlish). So they said : what a crazy girl, you shouldn't laugh when a guy grab you!
One of the best experience is when my friends just called me one winter night , saying they would pick me up in a few minutes (5-5-5 after dark, they had to take turn picking me up) and we
would hit one party house. We walked around the campus to the party hall.
It was so quiet outside that I didn't feel that the party went on. But when the door was open, the music blasted, and all the kids were just wear swimming gears! Lovely crazy with bikini, trunk, shark fin, swimming ring, surfboards.. you named it. Crazy, that we were in one of the coldest cities and the temperature outside was killing me, but a few steps away these kids were dancing with just swimming suits!
It was "Hawaiian Night", they told me later.
All my friends were top students. They studied really hard but in many ways they showed me the other sides of crazy wild life of teenagers in the US.
PS At the same year, my Thai friends went for MBAs in a small town in Oklahoma and Kansas. They always
made a joke that whenever any new guys arrived in town, they knew it immediately that they're Thai or not just seeing the shoes that touched the ground.
The town was so small, serviced with just a few bus lines and left behind a cloud of dust after the passengers got out. Just like a westen movie. 555 It's good understanding joke among us.
I wish I could write you in Thai, would be more fun.
The End..
