Saiyah #2.3
FOLDING and [UN] FOLDING LIGHTS in an empty space
Installation by YOKO SEYAMA (瀬山 葉子)
**FREE ADMISSION**
Hello everyone! we just went to the coolest exhibition in town and we’d like to share it with you guys.
Seiyah #2.3 started from Nov. 3rd to 12th at Bangkok CityCity Gallery, the Berlin based Japanese artist presents, for the first time in Southeast Asia, her art installation “Saiyah #2.3”, where light folds and unfolds to continuously modify the surrounding space in various hues of colors.
Before we start let's know more about the artist!
YOKO SEYAMA (Multimedia artist / Scenographer)
The Berlin based Japanese scenographer and multimedia artist Yoko Seyama (1980) specializes in spacial time-based art. Her background is architecture and performing arts. Her works combine digital elements with natural materials which she is working into mutating spaces. Light is one of her major material.
“Inside the room”
“Us with the mirror”
*CAUTION!* DO NOT bring food or beverages inside the exhibition.
Her clever use of physics principles transformed into an artwork beautifully gives light a somehow more tangible quality. Using the light source which is as white as daylight, the light is split into two colors. The full range white light goes through the spectral glass which transmit only a specific color wavelength. At the same time the light reflects the remaining wavelengths. With this simple mechanism, the colors can be remixed again to create new colors. In this case, I am using four different spectroscopic glasses to create so many complex colors.
In the dark room, there is only the sound of people coming to see the installation. This is a form of motors that make the job moving. The four glass windows in the center of the room slowly rotate with the beam of the light source, resulting in different colored beams. These beams splashed into the mirrors that were set up at various points in the room. The angle of light and the pattern that moves around the room slowly.

Lastly, we hope you all enjoy and get the chance to see Yoko’s work. and thank you for visiting our blog!
