เริ่มต้นจากเมื่อ สามปีก่อนหน้านี้ มีฝรั่งคนหนึ่งพายเรือคายัค มาจอดที่หน้าบ้านของผม เนื้อตัวมอมแมมเปื้อนไปด้วยโคลน เดินขึ้นมาขอความช่วยเหลือจากคนที่บ้าน ร่างกายของฝรั่งคนดังกล่าวดูอ่อนแรง ผิวลอก พร้อมมีตุ่มขึ้นตามตัว ฝรั่งคนนั้นพยายามสื่อสารกับคนที่บ้านว่าต้องการ น้ำและต้องการหาร้านค้า คนที่บ้านผมก็จัดการจัดหาน้ำหาท่าและพาไปร้านค้าให้ฝรั่งคนดังกล่าว ตามที่เขาต้องการ หลังจากนั้นเขาก็ขอชาร์ด แบต GPS และอุปกรณ์อื่นๆ ของเขา ทราบชื่อเขาว่า Mike (Michal Smith) เขาเป็นคน UK เดิมทำอาชีพ Commercial Driving พายเรื่อคายัคมาจากสมุทรปราการจนมาถึงบ้านผมก็ ตำบลบางตะบูนจังหวัดเพชรบุรีแล้ว
ต่อมาเมื่อเขาพักได้สักระยะชาร์ตแบตสิ่งต่างๆเรียบร้อยเตรียมสเบียงอาหารเรียบร้อยเขาต้องการที่จะออกเดินทางต่อ แต่เรารั้งเขาไว้เนื่องจาก เขามีอาการเจ็บที่ข้อเท้าและมือ ร่วมถึงผิวหนังที่ไหม้และตุ่มก็ยังมีไห้เห็นอยู่ เราจึงเสนอการให้เขาพักที่บ้านเราจนกว่าเขาจะหาย เขามีทีท่าเกรงใจอย่างมากและตอบปฏิเสธ แต่เราก็รั้งเค้าไว้เพราะดูแล้วเขาคงไม่มีแรงพายเรือไปต่อแน่ๆ สุดท้ายเราพูดจนเขายอมพักอยู่กับเราสักระยะหนึ่งก่อน
ขณะเวลาหลายอาทิตย์ที่เขาพักอยู่ที่บ้านผม ฝรั่งคนนี้มารยาทดีมาก ไม่มีการรบกวนคนในบ้านเลยแม้แต่น้อย แถมยังมีน้ำใจช่วยเหลือในหลาย ๆ อย่าง เราพาเขาไปหาหมอ หายาให้รวมถึงร่วมพูดคุยกินอยู่กันเหมือนคนในครอบครัว
หลังจากอาการของเขาหายดีเขาก็ซ่อมหางเสือเรือของเขารวมถึงใบเรือด้วย เราช่วยกันจดเสร็จ แล้วเขาก้เสนอตัวว่าเขาจะไปแล้ว และได้ทิ้ง ที่อยู่ e-mail ไว้ให้ผมติดต่อ หลังจากที่เขาออกจากท่าบ้านเราไปเราก็อดเป็นห่วงไม่ได้เพราะหนทางอีกไกลที่เขาจะต้องพายเรือไป ผมก็ติดต่อกับเขาทางอีเมลล์ ถามถึงเขาว่าเป็นอย่างไรสบายดีไหม หลายวันต่อมาก็ได้รับ e-mail ตอบกลับมา เราก็สบายใจ เขาตอบอีเมลล์ ฉบับนี้มาหาผม ผมก็สบายใจที่เขามีภรรยาเป็นคนไทยแล้ว แต่ยังไงครอบครัวผมก็ยังอยากรู้ความเป็นไปของเขาอีก แต่ผมไม่สามารถติดต่อเขาได้เลย
สุดท้ายนี้หากใครพอติดต่อชายคนนี้ได้หรือรู้จักชายคนนี้ รบกวนแจ้งเขาหน่อยครับ ว่าทางบ้านผมคิดถึงและอยากรู้ความเป็นอยู่ของเขาในปัจจุบันด้วย

Dear Soong, So sorry not to have replied sooner.....very busy with work on fishing boat, my family have been asking about me too ! I am still near Bang Saphan Noi...my lady has a house 10 kilometres away & I am staying with her while we work on the boat at Leamson Beach/harbour. I can not check what news I have sent to you before but here is a short description of what I have been doing.
My kayaking mission was stopped because of monsoon, & my diversion to the Andaman coast in order to continue on a different route down to the Singapore Strait was cancelled because I met a fine Thai woman & she was very upset that I had to leave her. So I looked around for a fishing boat to make as my home while we spent time together. The weather improved & as no fishing boat was available for purchase I explained to her that I should continue on my mission. She reluctantly accepted that I must leave & then a very nice boat became available. I bought the boat near Chumphon & brought it by sea to Leamson harbour....Seetong, my lady was at the wheel for the trip of 37 miles.
am still working on the boat...had to stop a few days ago because of the rain. Today I am going to the boat to rig covers so that I can work in all weathers. I expect the work will take three months. Soong, please send me your home address so that I can send you a letter in Thai......I can use the Google translator & get it printed hear at the internet shop. If you think that is a good idea please send it....perhaps I could also send you an SD card with pictures for you to view on your PC.
Perhaps Seetong & me could visit you & all your family at the family home where I stayed. I have very nice memories of my time there & I would very much like to return for an hour or so. This fishing boat has taken quite a lot of money...to purchase & get materials & tools, so I will need some time to get my bank balance in better shape.
