Ministry delays tablet auction

An electronic auction to buy 1.6 million tablets for Prathom 1 (Grade 1) and Mathayom 1 (Grade 7) students and their teachers will be postponed for a month.
A source from the tablet computer committee said the terms of reference (ToR) for the tablets would be changed based on feedback from a public hearing about the procurement in April.
Under the new ToR, he said a requirement that the manufacturers' maintenance centres meet ISO 9001 standard has been scrapped, as they claimed it would take several years to attain that standard.
Another change is that the battery capacity of the tablets to be bought for Grade 7 students will be extended from 3,600 milliamps to not less than 4,000 mAh. The 3,600 mAh battery capacity of Grade 1 tablets was unchanged.
The new ToR will be published on the Education Ministry's website tomorrow.
As a result, the electronic bidding round which was planned for May 10 was postponed and will now be held on June 10.
