The IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards celebrate the essential role that coaches play in the lives of their athletes – both on and off the field of play.
Volleyball coach Lang Ping and wrestling coach Raúl de Jesús Trujillo Díaz have been named winners of the 2025 edition, recognising their decades of dedication to their respective sports and achievements in taking their athletes to Olympic glory.
Receiving their awards at a ceremony at Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland, the two winners thanked the athletes and fellow coaches who have been alongside them throughout their journeys.
“This award is a great honour,” said Ping, the first person in volleyball history to win Olympic gold as a player and a coach. “I am deeply grateful to the IOC and the FIVB [International Volleyball Federation] for recognising my coaching work.
“There are so many people to thank – from the brilliant teams and players I have coached in China, Italy and the USA to the coaches and mentors who shaped me as a player and as a person from my earliest days in the sport. This recognition belongs to all of them.”
A true volleyball pioneer
Known as the “Iron Hammer”, Ping was a key player for China in the 1980s as they claimed their first Olympic gold in volleyball at Los Angeles 1984.
Ping took her first coaching position in 1987 before guiding China’s women’s team to a surprise silver medal at Atlanta 1996.
After a successful stint in Italy, she became head coach of USA women, winning another silver medal at Beijing 2008, including a win over China in her home country.
In 2013, Ping returned for a second stint with China and wrote her name into the volleyball history books by winning gold at Rio 2016.
Her team also won consecutive World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019, mirroring her Olympic achievement as the first person to achieve that feat as a player and a coach.

หลางผิง หรือที่รู้จักกันในชื่อ “ค้อนเหล็ก” เป็นผู้เล่นคนสำคัญของจีนในช่วงทศวรรษ 1980 โดยคว้าเหรียญทองโอลิมปิกครั้งแรกในการแข่งขันวอลเลย์บอลที่ลอสแอนเจลิสในปี 1984
