Iran head coach Lee Do Hee had high praise for Alas Pilipinas standouts Julia Morado-de Guzman and Angel Canino following their intense five-set battle in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup on Monday night in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Morado-de Guzman orchestrated the offense with nine running sets and also tallied 12 excellent digs and one point, while Canino led the team in scoring with 20 points.
Lee acknowledged that Iran focused on preparing for the two key players, especially after suffering a loss to the Philippines in the same tournament last year.
“We lost to the Philippines last year, but this year we won, and I think our players’ self-confidence has grown a lot,” Lee said. “They’re really good at some techniques, and they’re so fast. Their defense is solid. But we actually trained for blocking against them, so we were ready.”
With the win, Iran stayed unbeaten in the week-long competition, while Alas Pilipinas slipped to a 2-1 record in Group A.
