THE THREE MARIA'S
The Three Marys are a trio of stars that make up the famous "Orion's Belt", one of the best-known celestial formations. They are part of the constellation Orion and are named Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka.
Alnitak, located left for the Southern Hemisphere observers, is a triple star system. Its main star is a blue supergiant star about 20 times the mass of the Sun and about 200,000 times brighter. It is about
800 light-years from Earth.🤖

Alnilam, located at the centre of the trio, is the brightest of the three.
This blue supergiant possesses about 40 times the mass of the Sun and shines with an intensity of approximately 375,000 times greater. Located about 1,300 light-years from us, Alnilam is rapidly consuming its fuel and, in a few million years, it will explode like a supernova.
Mintaka, appearing on the right, is also a multiple star system, composed of at least two stars orbiting each other. Its main star is a blue giant about 20 times the mass of the Sun. Like Alnitak, it is about 800 light-years away.
These stars belong to the O and B spectral classes, known for their large size, intense luminosity, and high temperature. However, due to their accelerated energy
consumption, they have a relatively short astronomical lifespan.⚠️

The magnificence of these three stars, both in size and brightness, makes them easily visible in the night sky, and have been recognized and admired by various cultures throughout history.🤩
