🤲🏽🧠 Teachers offer students
blessing of their studies. 🌿
“Wai Khru” (“ไหว้ครู”) is a ceremony which students pay respect and show gratitude to their teachers. It also spiritually formalizes teacher-student relationship. Students present flowers, joss sticks and candles on pedestalled trays to teachers.
One of the flowers that is mostly used
in Wai Khru ritual is “Ixora,” as pronounced in Thai as “Khem” (“เข็ม”) which literally means “needle”. 🪡 Closed pointed bud of this flower is how it derives its Thai name. It connotes smartness and sharp wit,
just as a sharp needle can pierce
through things with its sharpness.
