Long story short - I'm disabled and have a knee infection due to crawling on my knees through the house. Every year I had to do operation to have the knee cleaned as the inflamation kept coming back (I did them abroad, back home).
Finally, I went to a private hospital in Bangkok to have my knee operated again, they started giving a rate
antibiotic (Targocid) while waiting on the results from the laboratory on the actual bacteria inside.
A few days later the result showed that the bacteria is called corynebacterium striatum and is resistant to 8 out of 11 antibiotics tested (most likely due to many operations that I had before).
The antibiotic that the hospital is giving me was chosen correctly and can kill the bacteria.
However, the hospital told me that the bacteria is in my joints/bones, so I will need a heavy course (
600mg of Targocid per day for 3 months) if I want to be cured.
The price of having this antibiotic administered at this hospital is
15,000+ THB per day! That's 1.8 million baht for the whole course! (I initially expected it to be no longer than 2-3 weeks).
I tried looking for this antibiotic online and found out that hospitals normally purchase it at 1300 THB per 200 MG (which in my case would be 3900 THB per day). However, after calling many hospitals, not a single one of them had it in stock, or told me to come over and pay a doctors fee (otherwise they wouldn't tell me if they have it in stock or not).
I feel lost and don't know what to do. I am bleeding 15000 THB per day and if I cancel this antibiotic, I will become resistant to it, which will lead to inflamation returning and a possible amputation of my leg.
Any advice will be helpful at this point.
