Is the phrase 'could use' widely understood if spoken to any native English speaker?

- The hot weather makes me feel exhausted and sweat a lot. I could use a can of cold beer.

- The country ubder the now Prime Minister seems to stagnate. Maybe, it could use a new one to make things better.

Are these two sentences I made using the phrase 'could use' ok?
