This is not going to be good news for “Avatar” fans. “Avatar 2” will hit the theaters only in 2018 now. The release of the much awaited sequel has been pushed by two years.
Earlier, it was reported that “Avatar 2” was going to release in December 2017. However, the makers decided against it as they did not want the movie to clash with another biggie, “Star Wars: Episode 8”, which releases towards the end of next year. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” went smiling to the bank as it registered massive earnings, reported Christian Today. So it won’t come as a surprise to know that it is already being awaited with bated breath by fans.
Another reason for delay that has been talked about is the logistics regarding production of the movie. If one has seen “Avatar”, they know that it is not easy to have a film look that pretty and visually appealing. This is all the more reason for director James Cameron to take his sweet time to make sure he only raises the standard in the sequel. No one would want to imagine a scenario of walking out of a theatre unimpressed after watching “Avatar 2”.
Cameron had earlier announced that there will be four “Avatar” sequels, reported The Hollywood Reporter. He added that he wants to start a ‘truly massive cinematic process’. Going by his earlier plan, there were supposed to be only three sequels, however, he found it to be limiting his potential to reveal the story. He was quoted saying, “we began to bump up against the limitations for our art form.”
The filmmaker is confident that each sequel will have its own identity. It is his assurance that when four sequels are watched together, it will come out as a magnum opus saga. With “Avatar 2” releasing in December 2018, the rest of the sequels are expected to hit the theaters by 2020, 2022 and 2023.
