Way to Deal with the Problem of Flood in Fah Thai Market Area
Introduction
Floods are part of nature. They may happen almost on one place on earth when there is too much water at one place and at one time. Floods are becoming more problem around the world. To begin with, it is heavy rain. Which were due to long time heavy rainfall. Also, rainstorms hit the urban such as typhoon, tropical storm, and depression. Next, Deforestation also contributes significantly to flooding. As the result of global warming and climate change has been affecting rising sea levels and change of rainfall. Moreover, when some areas lack of trees or forests may be to floods, landslides, and mud flows. Last, some countries have in appropriate urban development. People made obstructions in the flood path. In addition, the water don’t drain in time, then there is a flood after it rained.
Many studies, done by researchers, have concluded that the flood was the cause of much damage. The flood bore heavily on the economic and social losses (Cashman, Evelpidou, Pasche, Garvin & Ashley, Zevenbergen, 2010, p.95). If the flooding increased, the amount of illness, death and economic disruption will increase. Coldin and Murray (2011) said that the potential for flooding to cause harm to human lives and health is great (p.53). There is a tendency that flooding is a serious problem every year. During the past two centuries, the loss from the flood amounts to millions of dollars in poverty damage, it is have cause the deaths of at least 30,000 people, and channels of the flooding was the change (Cenderelli, 2000, p.73). Moreover, in the past, the number of people has been affected and several hundred billion dollars in financial damage resulted from the flood. According to a recent by the United Nations, 44% of flood disasters that occurred in the world during the period 1987-1996 claimed some 228,000 lives and resulted in damage of US $136 billion to the Asian economy. It seems that urban food has been much damaged because the drainage system is not good. Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (2012) explained that during July to December 2011about 19.6% of Thais have been affected by flooding, especially in the urban flood (p.1).
As stated earthier, flood is the problem around the world. Unfortunately, there is no evidence or information regarding flooding among Fah Thai Market Area despite the fact that Fah Thai Market Area has flooding every year. Thus, the objectives of this study are to find the cause and effect of flood and to find the solutions for decreasing the damage of flood at Fah Thai Market Area.
