KUALA LUMPUR, June 18:
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Japan Professional Football League (J.League) to work together to improve the quality of football in the country.
FAM deputy president Datuk Abdul Mokhtar Ahmad said Japan has become a model for many countries in Asia on their dominance in football, and Malaysia take similar steps in order to again become a giant in the sport.
"We wanted to emulate them ... more to find out how Japan is moving and working in developing their players.
"They encourage their players to play abroad and now, 80 Japanese player to play in Thailand, and about 300 players in action throughout the country.
"So, with this MoU, we want to learn from them, how they started," he told reporters after the MoU between FAM and the J.League at Wisma FAM today.
The cooperation includes exchange of information is essential in improving the level of league football in both countries, share knowledge, and organize a seminar on professional league and club management, especially in the field of marketing.
In addition, under the MOU, FAM and J.League will cooperate in the exchange program, observation and training for coaches, referees, players and physical aspects, training, health care, tournament management, and marketing academy.
The alliance will also involve organizing a friendly match between Super League clubs and the Premier League and J.League Malaysia to hold joint training camp for teens of both countries.
Meanwhile, Deputy President of the Japan Football Association (JFA) said Mitsuru Murai history that exists between the two countries, prompted the signing of helping Malaysia to bounce back in the football arena.
Murai, who is also Chairman of the J.League, assured that they will provide full support in improving national soccer in the future.
"The history of football between Japan and Malaysia made me think of two things, and in Johor Baharu Merdeka Cup. Merdeka Cup is a tough competition and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to compete in the prestigious tournament.
"Clonmel is also the place where we got tickets to the World Cup for the first time," said Mitsuru.
