Go get visa first, but not now. Wait until July or August because once you get visa you must travel within three months, ok? By the way September is rainy season so traveling will be a bit inconvenient, but that's not a big deal. You also should search for hotel because nowadays a lot of tourists and business  people come to Yangon. Be prepared to pay if you want 4 or 5 star hotel.

Will you only be in Yangon?  If so, suggested places you should visit:

1).Shwe Dagon Pagoda ( you can go the evening of your arrival. nightime is best.)

2). Bothatau Pagoda

3).Kabaaye pagoda

4). Sule pagoda.

5). Scott market ( closed on Mondays)

6).Bago ( Hongsawadee) about two and a half hours from Yangon.

7).Seriam. Also 2.5 hrs from Yangon.

I think since you will have a few days youshould go to Kyaithiyo ( Golden Hanging Rock) you can go mearly morning and return same day at night. Go by highway bus.

Well, just give you an idea but there are many intersting places more than I suggested.

Remember to remove your shoes including socks as soon as you enter the pagoda territory. Bring a pair of slippers or sandals with you and don't forget an umbralla. Have fun.
