A column of 160 35 mm diameter at the top and a narrow
section of 15 mm at the bottom, made of borosilicate glass, with
polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) valve at the bottom, was filled with
the SAISG mixture. The lower part of the column had a hole with a
diameter of 0.5 mm through which the analytes were eluted. Glass
wool was at the bottom of the column to avoid leakage of the
SAISG powder. The column was connected with two-neck flask
where analytes were collected. A vacuum pump was connected
to this flask to accelerate the sample treatment. Also SPE vacuum
manifold from Waters (MA, USA) was used in this part of the optimisation
of the method.
Alternatively, glass SPE cartridges with extraction manifold
could be used. Large volume glass SPE cartridges are not commercially
available but they can be easily prepared in the laboratory.
