People take 500km/h maglev ride
NHK -- NOV 14
Lucky people in Japan have gone 500 kilometers per hour in rides on a magnetically levitated train.
Central Japan Railway Company started rides on the maglev train for ordinary people at its 42.8-kilometer test track in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo, on Thursday.
About 100 people chosen by lottery boarded the train. It runs three times per day.
The train hit 500 kilometers per hour about 5 minutes after its start. Passengers cheered, and some took pictures of a monitor showing the speed.
The railway operator seeks to begin commercial service of the high-speed train between Tokyo and Nagoya, central Japan, in 13 years.
