The Office of the Attorney General has ordered the indictment of former auditor-general Khunying Jaruwan Maintaka in the Criminal Court for malfeasance, according to OAG spokesman Wanchai Rujanawong.
The announcement follows the submission of a request from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for the OAG to take legal action against Khunying Jaruwan for making a false report that she and other office staff had organised a seminar in Nan province.
The NACC said the seminar was not held. In fact, it was a tod kathin ceremony by the staff led by Khunying Jaruwan. The false report was intended to enable the staff to ask for a refund for their accommodation, transportation and other expenses.
The OAG initially found the case filed by the NACC to be incomplete. A joint OAG-NACC working committee was set up to find more evidence. The working committee later completed the investigation and recommended the indictment of Khunying Jaruwan.
The OAG on Aug 26 ordered that Khunying Jaruwan be indicted on malfeasance charges and sent a letter to the NACC to indict her in the Criminal Court.
