A study of urinary markers in dog infected with Babesia canis vogeli

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the urinary markers in dog infected with Babesia canis vogeli. Blood and urine samples were collected from 11 dogs. The samples were divided into two groups, group B including six dogs infected only B. canis vogeli confirmed by microscopic examination and multiplex-PCR technique while group H including five healthy dogs. The blood was measure for hematology and biochemistry while the urine was store -80 ºC until analyzed. Then, all of three candidate urinary markers (urinary immunoglobulin G; uIgG, urinary C-reactive protein; uCRP, and urinary retinol-binding protein; uRBP) in urine were examined using ELISA kits. The results demonstrated that  hemoglobin, red blood cell count, hematocrit and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were significantly different between group B and group H (P = 0.028, 0.018, 0.045, 0.017, respectively) while uIgG, uCRP, and uRBP were not. In conclusion, uIgG, uCRP, and uRBP could not use as a  urinary markers in dog infected with B. canis vogeli, but further study should investigate the other urinary markers such as albumin, tubular enzymes and tubular protein.
