สถาบันศิลปะภาพยนตร์ และวิทยาศาสตร์ เผยรายชื่อเพลงที่มิสิทธิ์เข้าชิงรางวัลออสการ์ครั้งที่ 86 มาแล้ว โดยมีถึง 75 เพลงด้วยกัน โดยศิลปินดังๆ มากมาย มีโอกาสลุ้นเข้าชิงในปีนี้
ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเดฟ กรอห์ล กับเพื่อนๆ จากเพลงในหนัง Sound City, โคลด์เพลย์จาก The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, เจย์ ซี และลานา เดล เรย์จาก The Great Gatsby โดยการปรับปรุงการลงคะแนนในปีนี้ ทำให้ผู้เข้าชิงมีอย่างน้อย 5 เพลง ไม่เหมือนเมื่อปี 2012 ซึ่งมีเพลงหลุดเข้ารอบ 39 เพลง และมีเพลงได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงแค่ 2 เพลงคือ Man or Muppet จาก The Muppets และ Real in Rio จาก Rio โดยเพลงแรกคว้ารางวัลไปครอง เพลงที่ได้เข้าชิงจะเป็นเพลงที่ได้รับการลงคะแนนสูงสุดจาก สมาชิกของสถาบันในสายเพลง แต่ก่อนหน้านี้จะเป็นการคัดเลือกที่ซับซ้อน และไม่ยืดหยุ่นเท่า โดยใช้คะแนนเฉลี่ย จาก 39 เพลงในปี 2012 ผู้มีสิทธิ์ลงคะแนนจะต้องให้คะแนนแต่ละเพลง ตั้งแต่ 6 – 10 คะแนน และเพลงที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงจะต้องมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยมากกว่า 8.25 คะแนน แต่จากการปรับระบบการลงคะแนน ทำให้มีเพลงที่ได้เข้าชิง 5 เพลง และเพลง Skyfall ของอเดลจากหนัง เจมส์ บอนด์ชื่อเดียวกันได้รางวัลไป
สำหรับเพลงที่มีสิทธิ์ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิง ต้องเป็นเพลงที่เนื้อร้อง และทำนอง แต่งขึ้นเพื่อหนังเรื่องนั้นโดยตรง แล้วต้องได้ยินในภาพยนตร์ หรือเป็นเพลงแรกที่ได้ยินในช่วงเอนด์ เครดิต และนี่คือเพลงที่มีโอกาสได้เข้าชิงรางวัลออสการ์ เพลงยอดเยี่ยมปีนี้ โดยเรียงตามตัวอักษร
